Precious Self-Importance

The media has it.

And its arrogance is wrong.

According to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, possessing the stolen John Podesta emails is a crime — unless you’re a member of the media.

“Remember, it’s illegal to possess these stolen documents,” Mr Cuomo said on air. “It’s different for the media, so everything you learn about this, you’re learning from us.”

Because we’re the Cool Kids.

It’s hard to believe that these folks, for whom words are their stock in trade, and for whom the 1st Amendment is central to their trade, don’t know this.  What does that say about media integrity?

She Was Right the First Time

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, recall, commented on NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling when our national anthem was played before the start of San Francisco 49ers games, saying that Kaepernick and his ilk have the right to protest but that it’s “dumb and disrespectful.”

Now she’s apologizing for saying that, even though she’s done nothing here that wants an apology.  She’s doing so, too, just a short time after she expressed her contempt for Republican Party Presidential candidate Donald Trump, thereby irrevocably demonstrating her prejudice and the fact that she’d prejudged any case that might come before the Court from a Trump administration.

This is another Supreme Court vacancy waiting to happen, and not too long into the next administration.

Racism of the Left

Again.  Still.

A Black-owned bakery, Fat Cupcake, baked up a batch of cupcakes to honor our President, an American who happens to be black; they titled the cupcakes “Mr President.”  Fat Cupcake described their confection on their menu as an

Oreo (™) Cookie baked inside white cake, cookies n’ cream buttercream.

It didn’t take long for the Left to start manufacturing a racist beef where none exists, thereby displaying their own racism.  Via Yelp, for instance:

Very troubling. They were serving a cupcake called the “Mr President” that had an Oreo cookie inside. When I tried to point out the racism implied, they claimed that “our current president loves Oreos.”

Never mind that President Barack Obama (D) is well-known for loving Oreos; there’s no “claim” there.

This isn’t just an isolated anecdote, either.

Since opening in Southeast Portland, [Fat Cupcake owner Anjelica] Hayes said she’s had to field questions about whether her cupcakes are racist.

I’m surprised someone isn’t whining about the sexist nature of the establishment’s name.

Democrats, Progressives, and Americans

This is what the Democratic Party and its Progressive center think of our government and of us plebeian citizens [emphasis added].

Dear John:

Well, we all thought the big problem for our US democracy was Citizens United/Koch Brothers big money in politics. Silly us; turns out that money isn’t all that important if you can conflate entertainment with the electoral process. Trump masters TV, TV so-called news picks up and repeats and repeats to death this opinionated blowhard and his hairbrained ideas, free-floating discontent attaches to a seeming strongman and we’re off and running. JFK, Jr would be delighted by all this as his “George” magazine saw celebrity politics coming. The magazine struggled as it was ahead of its time but now looks prescient. George, of course, played the development pretty lightly, basically for charm and gossip, like People, but what we are dealing with now is dead serious. How does this get handled in the general? Secretary Clinton is not an entertainer, and not a celebrity in the Trump, Kardashian mold; what can she do to offset this? I’m certain the poll-directed insiders are sure things will default to policy as soon as the conventions are over, but I think not. And as I’ve mentioned, we’ve all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking – and not just poll driven, demographically-inspired messaging.

Racism or just Stupidity?

The National Museum of African American History and Culture opened last month in Washington—and missing from the four floors of exhibits is any reference to [Justice Clarence] Thomas’ personal and judicial legacy, shocking for perhaps the second most powerful black political figure in America, after President Obama.

They do, though, have a large section of the woman who tried to smear Thomas and block his confirmation to the Supreme Court.  Justice Thomas’ response to that attempt and to the complicity of the Democratic Party Senators complicit in the attempt puts it best:

This is a circus. It’s a national disgrace.  And from my standpoint, as a black American, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves  …  and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you.

Democrats haven’t changed in the 25 years since, either; they have, in fact, broadened their smear efforts.  See, for instance, the routine Uncle Tom characterizations of ex-Republican National Committee Chairman and American who was black Michael Steele.  See, too, their slut characterization of conservative ex-Vice Presidential candidate and American who was a woman Sarah Palin.

The broadening strikes me more as stupidity than bigotry.  Or they just hate anyone who doesn’t agree with them.
