A Reminder

A short time ago, as such things are measured, Osama bin Laden said this:

America is a great power possessed of tremendous military might and a wide-ranging economy, but all this is built on an unstable foundation which can be targeted with special attention to obvious weak spots.  If America is hit in one hundredth of those weak spots, God willing, it will stumble, wither away, and relinquish world leadership.

A bit earlier than that, Abraham Lincoln said this:

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected?  I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us.  It cannot come from abroad.  If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher.  As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

And now we have Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

A Teachers Union Disingenuosity

This example is provided by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties; they’re holding the education of 100,000 state college/university students hostage against satisfaction of the union’s demands.

APSCUF President Kenneth Mash:

We are headed to the picket lines, but even on the picket lines, our phones will be on, should the State System decide it doesn’t want to abandon its students[.]

And

The union said late Tuesday night that the state had handed it its last, best offer and was done negotiating.

Who’s abandoning the students?  It isn’t the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, which runs the State’s college/university system that’s cut off negotiations.  It isn’t the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education that’s decided to walk out, strike, and refuse to teach the system’s tuition-paying students.

The sticking points?  The union says the offered pay raise isn’t big enough to suit them.  The union objects to paying a share of their health coverage costs.  The system already had acceded to another union objection [emphasis added].

[T]he state said it withdrew several proposals including one that would have required full-time temporary faculty to teach an additional class each semester.

A whole additional class.  So students could get an improved college education.

The union’s teachers and coaches (nominally teachers themselves) just want free stuff of their own.

Now, Indiana.

The Delaware County Republican Party said vandals struck at their office last week.

Someone threw two landscaping bricks through a window on Oct 8. Signs for Donald Trump and Todd Young were hanging on the window at the time, according to the group’s Facebook page.

Is there any doubt about how the Left deals with those who disagree with them?  Sure, local North Carolina Democrats helped pay for repairs to that damage, but they’re not in government.  Not yet.  Indiana?

Precious Self-Importance

The media has it.

And its arrogance is wrong.

According to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, possessing the stolen John Podesta emails is a crime — unless you’re a member of the media.

“Remember, it’s illegal to possess these stolen documents,” Mr Cuomo said on air. “It’s different for the media, so everything you learn about this, you’re learning from us.”

Because we’re the Cool Kids.

It’s hard to believe that these folks, for whom words are their stock in trade, and for whom the 1st Amendment is central to their trade, don’t know this.  What does that say about media integrity?

Holding out for Perfection

William McGurn, of The Wall Street Journal, had some thoughts on this as it concerns NeverTrumpers [emphasis added].

Give the Never Trumpers their due: most do not shy away from the implication that anyone who would vote for Mr Trump is as low and base as he is. Their problem is that the argument doesn’t seem to be having much traction with Republican voters. …

One reason may be that the argument about morally corrupt GOP voters is not really an argument. More precisely, it’s an argument Republicans typically hear from the left. Instead of weighing the prosaic facts—i.e., the practical ramifications of having Mrs Clinton sitting in the Oval Office versus Mr Trump—how much easier it is to try to end all discussion by pronouncing the GOP nominee repellent.

Because forming a rational argument on the matter is as repugnant to NeverTrumpers as it is to Progressives like Clinton and Obama (and Reid and Schumer and Pelosi) and to Democrats generally.

This will only get NeverTrumpers Clinton as president.

It’s hard to believe these folks—grown, adult, rational human beings all—don’t know that.  Maybe NeverTrumpers just don’t care one way or the other.  Maybe they’re just abdicating their responsibility by hiding behind their demand for purity rather than doing what’s least damaging.  Or what’s possible.
