Democratic Party obstructionism continues in the Senate. Recall that the Democrats refused to allow over 300 House-passed jobs-related bills even to come up for debate in the last session and how they shut down the Federal government over a House-passed spending bill that fully funded the government but that didn’t have an additional 2% of what the Democrats demanded.

They’re at it again. The House has passed a bill that fully funds the Department of Homeland Security for the year, which under the last session’s compromise passed in December, had only been funded through the end of this month. The bill also rolls back a number of President Barack Obama’s unconstitutional immigration “executive actions.” Obama’s minions in the Senate are vowing to block the bill, to filibuster it.

Obama has promised to veto the bill, should it make it past the Senate Democrats’ obstructionism. Obama and his minions are fully prepared to shut down HHS, to walk completely away from what little border security they’re willing to provide today, if they can’t have 100% of their way.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R, KY) has made the question clear:

It’s a debate that will challenge our colleagues on the other side with a simple proposition. Do they think presidents of either party should have the power to simply ignore laws that they don’t like? Well, will our Democratic colleagues work with us to defend key democratic ideals like separation of powers and the rule of law? Or will they stand tall for the idea that partisan exercises of raw power are good things? The House-passed bill we’ll consider would do two things. Fund the Department of Homeland Security and rein in executive overreach. That’s it. It’s simple….

Remember the Democrats’ behavior in 2016.

The Jordanian pilot, the one whom ISIS was wanting to trade for a terrorist in a Jordanian prison has been burned alive. Our President, Barack Obama had this to say:

Should in fact this video be authentic, it’s just one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity of this organization. This organization appears only interested in death and destruction.

Notice that: “this organization.” Obama still can’t find the…something…to recognize these as Islamic terrorists.

More importantly, this should now be a no-quarter war. These terrorists, and the nations who continue to support them, have forfeited their right to exist.

But our President has no clue of justice.

A Senate panel could pass a bipartisan Iran sanctions bill as soon as Thursday — but even if approved, the measure is likely to gather dust for at least two months after Democratic backers agreed to give the Obama administration more time to reach a nuclear deal.

This was a bill that wouldn’t even apply sanctions unless and until the Obama administration agreed that negotiations with the terrorist state had not succeeded by Obama’s own “deadline” of 24 March.

Senators Bob Menendez (D, NJ) and Chuck Schumer (D, NY) are among 10 Senators that suddenly have tucked their tails between their legs on the matter.

It seems that the Democratic Party is uninterested in stopping Iran’s nuclear weapons, or too timid to cross its boss in the White House. Or both.

It also seems foreign government lobbying of our Senate has had its effect.

Terrorist State Threatens Terrorism

And so it goes with Iran.

Iran is encouraging its terror allies to pursue the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s children by publishing personal information about them, including photographs of the kids lined up in crosshairs, and declaring, “We must await the hunt of Hezbollah.”

And

In addition to biographical details and pictures of Netanyahu’s children, the Iranians provided details about the families of former Prime Ministers Ehud Olmert and Ariel Sharon.

This was nominally triggered by an Israeli airstrike against a weapons shipment arrived in Syria but not yet dispersed in which an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps senior officer was killed.

Obama and Iran’s Nuclear Weapons

Jeff Dunetz, at The Lid, posted parts of an interesting exchange between Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Deputy Secretary of State Anthony Blinken regarding the nuclear weapons deal that President Barack Obama is about to conclude with Iran and at which Obama is desperate that Congress not look too closely. The three-hour hearing during which this exchange occurred can be seen on C-SPAN.

The set up question (from my perspective):

Menendez: So let me ask you this, isn’t it true that even the deal that you are striving towards—is not to eliminate any Iranian breakout capability, but to constrain the time in which you’ll get the notice of such breakout capability. Is that a fair statement, yes or no?
Blinken: Yes, it is.

The kicker [emphasis added]:

Menendez: Okay, so we’re not eliminating Iran’s ability to break out. We’re just getting alarm bells, and the question is how long are we going to get those alarm bells for. Now, isn’t it also true that the administration cannot lift sanctions, that it can only waive them under the present law, yes or no?
Blinken: That’s largely correct.
Menendez: So now the Iranians are going to make a deal in which this president may waive sanctions but the next president of the United States, whoever that may be, may decide you know what, this is not in our interests because it’s only going to give us a limited period of time and they’re going to go ahead and say sorry we’re not waiving the sanctions anymore. And that the Iranians are willing to make the hard decisions that they agreed to make that they have been unwilling to make for 18 months because I heard this movie’s been played before.

What this makes clear to me is that the Iranians have successfully used “negotiations” to stall and delay to the point that they’re now within two years of just that breakout. Having reached that point, does anyone really think resumed/additional sanctions will matter to the Iranian government?

No, having reached breakout, Iran will break out, will build their nuclear weapons. It’s a short step from there to use (they’ve long held that Israel must be wiped from the map) and deployment to terrorist clients and terrorist purchasers for their use.
